EuroMillions Winners Adrian and Gillian Bayford won the jackpot reward in draw number 510 on Friday 10th August 2012. Their lucky EuroMillions numbers were 11, 17, 21, 48, 50, with Lucky Stars 9 and 10 after 14 rollovers. To see if any of these numbers appear in the most commonly drawn numbers, you can find out in our EuroMillions numbers statistics.
The EuroMillions winners won their incredible £148,656,000 fortune by deciding to play EuroMillions with a Lucky Dip ticket. Gillian worked nights in ward D2 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital as a healthcare assistant and Adrian co-owned the Suffolk Music Centre in Haverhill. Adrian said “When she [Gillian] got back we decided to turn over (the television channel) and catch-up on the news.
Scrolling along the bottom of the screen was the news that one person had won the big Euromillions jackpot reward but Gillian confessed that she hadn’t had time to get a ticket. As a joke, I also said neither had I when in fact I had five lines upstairs waiting to be checked”.
When they realised that they had the lucky EuroMillions winning numbers, they celebrated by ordering pizzas. The couple, who had been married for eight years, spent the rest of the night on the internet deciding how to spend their huge jackpot.
The Bayfords were unveiled as the EuroMillions jackpot winners at Down Hall Country House Hotel, near Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, on the following Tuesday morning. The lucky couple, who had a daughter, aged six and a four-year-old son said “Children’s charities are close to our hearts so we will be exploring how we can use this money to help those charities but it is too soon to say exactly what.”
Another pair of winners with childrens charities close to their hearts were the McAliisters who won £17 million in 2005 and donated £10,000 to a children’s cancer charity support group based in Edinburgh.
Their instant fortune thanks to matching the winning numbers in the EuroMillions results placed them at 516th in the Sunday Times Rich List. After searching for the right property, Adrian and Gillian later swapped life in their three bedroom family home for a Grade II-listed Georgian mansion set in more than 100 acres of woods and farmland. The seven bedroom house, which has four marbled bathrooms and four reception rooms, also has a three bedroom annexe, a lodge, a three bedroom farmhouse, stables and an additional four cottages.
Although the outbuildings were available separately, the couple are believed to have used their EuroMillions jackpot reward to buy the entire site which had an asking price of more than £6million. They continued sending their son and daughter to the local state primary school.
The Bayford’s stand as the second highest EuroMillions winners in the history of the game, only behind Colin and Christine Weir who won a staggering £161 million in July 2011.
Gillian left her job as a healthcare assistant after the win but ex-postman Adrian went back behind the counter of his music shop in their town of Haverhill in Suffolk. However, he was forced to stop working at the shop after he was targeted by spongers looking for hand-outs.
The pair of EuroMillions winners were also inundated with begging letters, more than 40 a week, from all over the world.
Sometime later, a spokesman for the couple confirmed that their marriage had broken down irretrievably and they had separated. Adrian moved out to a £500,000 house nearby, and Gillian stayed in the mansion. Rumours and gossip continue about the EuroMillions winners’ situation, lovers, affairs and the like. Gillian even now uses her Twitter account to slam the press.
The pair have remained in the headlines for a number of reasons, with one of the strangest stories coming recently in July 2015 when Adrian Bayford was being sued by a former colleague for for crashing into him with a golf cart.
