The lucky numbers that the Maxwell’s managed to match in the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday 31st March 2015, were 8, 20, 24, 28, 49, with the Lucky Stars 8 and 9. The couple played a lucky dip ticket which was purchased from Mc Coll’s newsagents on Silver Street in their village of Coningsby, Lincolnshire.

The lucky couple from Lincolnshire are both 67-years-old and retired from their jobs. When they first heard of their EuroMillions win, they thought someone was playing a practical joke on them and are still pinching themselves at the fact they have over £53million to their name.
Richard checked the EuroMillions results on the National Lottery website while taking a break from helping builders move bricks for garage work he and his wife were having done.
He said: “I always keep our lottery tickets in the kitchen drawer so I took a break and went online to check the results. I looked first at the two Lucky Stars and noticed we had those.
Then I scanned across to the first main number and immediately knew they all matched our numbers. I checked again and again, five times in total, as I couldn’t believe it.”
Richard rang Camelot straight away to make sure that he had in fact won, but he kept the news to himself for another four hours while he waited for his wife, Angela, who was helping to cook for a local OAP lunch club, to get home.
Richard continued to explain that he knew his wife would be busy and unable to answer her mobile phone at the time he found out about the win. Therefore he tried to keep his mind off the lottery win by doing things such as “making cups of tea for the builders” to keep himself distracted.”
“When Angela came back later that afternoon, she was carrying a basket of tea towels and she started asking me about our dinner plans. I immediately told her we weren’t going out for dinner. I said, ‘we can’t go out for dinner Angela, I’ve got something to tell you’.”
Angela described the moment the good news was broken to her saying: “Richard just went red in the face and then said ‘we’ve won £53 million’. I said ‘don’t be stupid’ – he’s always playing jokes so I thought it was an April’s Fool! I just didn’t believe it. Then he showed me the numbers on the website and I dropped the basket of tea towels on the floor.”
As you have seen from the many other winners stories we have on Lottery24, the EuroMillions lottery has been a life changer for many of its players over the years. Richard and Angela Maxwell’s win is one of the biggest examples of this and a staggering amount of money.
Grateful for his fortune, Richard said: “It’s a life changing amount of money – £1 million would have been amazing but £53 million enables you do so much, not just for you, but those around you. Our local community is really important to us in particular helping young people in the area. The win will enable us to spend more time getting involved as well as give financial support.”
Said to be top of Richard’s shopping list is a top-of-the-range Range Rover, while Angela has her eyes set on some designer handbags and shoes that she plans to treat herself to. What’s for sure is that this couples lives will never be the same again.
Richard isn’t alone in having cars on his mind following his EuroMillions win. Racing fanatic Neill Trotter who won £108 million in 2014 also had hs eyes set on new cars.
