New Jersey Mega Millions winners, Linda and John Feeney from Totowa, will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary in style after winning $12 million on the Mega Millions lottery on 25th September 2007. Their lucky Mega Millions numbers were Quick Pick numbers which were 2, 19, 23, 47, 54 and a Mega Ball of 16.
Linda and John Feeney have been buying Mega Millions lottery tickets on a Monday and a Thursday for 22 years. They usually buy them from Fontanarosa’s Grocery and Deli, 86 Lincoln Avenue, Totowa, New Jersey and their purchase on 25th September was no exception. The New Jersey Mega Million winners came forward on 1st October to claim their $12 million prize.
The Feeney’s have decided to take the cash payout which will be $7,079,652 before tax. Their dummy cheque was presented to them by William T. Jourdain, Acting Executive Director of the New Jersey Lottery, “Congratulations to the Feeney’s, our latest Mega Millions jackpot winners. John and Linda have now become the third Mega Millions jackpot winners in 2007 – and what’s even more remarkable is they are the second New Jersey winner in less than a month.”
John Feeney is a navy veteran and retired recently from a job with Choc Full O’Nuts Coffee Company. Linda Feeney thoroughly enjoys her long standing job in accounting. John Feeney said, “2007 has already been a good year for me and my family. And when Linda and I checked the Mega Millions jackpot winning ticket, well, let’s just say that 2007 has become a VERY good year for us.”
John Feeney told everyone how they learnt they were winners of the Mega Millions lottery. “Linda checked the lottery numbers against our tickets in the morning when she arrived at work and she called me right away – she said she thought we had won. I told her to come home; in the meantime I checked the numbers again. I called Linda back on her cell phone, she pulled off to the side of the road and I told her we really did have the winning ticket.”
Mega Millions winner from New Jersey, Linda Feeney continued the story. “After I drove home – VERY carefully – we signed the ticket and put it into a safe place and started thinking about the future. Well, we started focusing on the future as much as you can after you’ve just found out that you now have $7 million more than you had budgeted for your golden years. It took us both a while just to let the fact that we had won sink in – in some way, I think it’s still sinking in.”
After winning the Mega Millions lottery, the Feeney’s have a lot of decisions to make. “Today’s our 30th wedding anniversary,” John Feeney said, “We’ve made one important decision – we’re going out tonight for a great anniversary celebration. Other than that – Linda and I are still busy sorting all of this out – we have some ideas about what we want to do for our future and our family’s future, but we haven’t made any big decisions yet.”
The Feeney’s lucky Mega Millions numbers also put $647,028 into State education and institutions.
