Sandeep Singh, a 22 year old from Massachusetts can now stop working 2 jobs to make ends meet after scooping the £30.5 million Mega Millions jackpot. The winning ticket – a quick pick purchase by his sister – correctly matched the winning numbers of 13, 37, 40, 46, 52 and a Mega Ball of 29 for the Mega Millions draw held on October 16th 2012.
SHARE OF THE PRIZE MONEY
The Mega Millions winner from Massachusetts known as “Sunny” to friends funded his winning ticket through $4 won on a scratch-off lottery card. He then used those few dollars to buy four quick pick Mega Millions tickets, including the winning $30.5 million ticket. It was actually his older sister who bought the winning ticket he revealed. “I thanked her so much” he said “Words can’t explain what’ she’s done for our family.” Promising to share the Mega Millions jackpot money with his sister, his only sibling, he also plans to pay off his mother’s mortgage, share the prize fund with wider family members and also donate some of it to charity.
LUMP SUM PAYMENT
Having opted for the cash lump sum payment of $23 million, Sunny will net around $16 million after taxes for his Massachusetts Mega Millions lottery jackpot. One person who will not receive a share is his ex-girlfriend who dumped him a couple of weeks before the big win.
Talking of the moment when he realised he was a winner from, the Mega Millions draw, Sunny said “I was in my sister’s room on the computer reading the numbers – I didn’t know what to do – I dropped the ticket”. It has taken a while for reality that he had the winning Mega Millions numbers to sink in. He had been playing Mega Millions and Powerball every two to three weeks for about a year. He was still in shock. “I always told them one day I’ll eventually win and they never believed me,” Singh said, “but it happened”
WORKING 2 JOBS
It seems the Mega Millions winner from Massachusetts has been helping his family for years and has worked between 2 jobs at Best Buy and Citizens Bank. When his father died during his freshman year in High school he started then to support his family. Working at Best Buy since then he will now give 2 weeks notice to his manager. He will also be leaving his job at the bank thanks to his Massachusetts Mega Millions lottery success and plans to give notice at the end of the fiscal quarter in December. In the meantime he could well be the richest employee there! Sunny studied computer science at Cape Cod Community College for 2 years and hopes now to go on and study for a bachelor’s degree in Business. His preference at the moment is the University of Massachusetts.
Good luck The ticket containing the Mega Millions winning numbers was bought at M/PM Convenience on Bearses Way Hyannis. The store will also share in the good fortune with a $50,000 commission. It appears that other customers are hoping that the luck rubs off as the store has seen an influx of lottery players “He did it, I can do it,” said a man buying lots of tickets in the hope that he could also have the winning Mega Millions numbers. One of the clerks commented “Oh yeah, I know him. He works in the Best Buy. He comes all the time. He’s a regular customer”. He added that he’s happy for Sunny because he’s “a nice guy.”
Candido Oliveira, 47, of Dorchester, was the last Massachusetts resident to win the Mega Millions lottery jackpot. Mr Oliveira won a jackpot amount of $32 million in August 2011.
