Private Couple Net Mega Millions Win in New Jersey
A New Jersey couple who scooped a Mega Millions lotto jackpot win in the May 31st 2013 draw were hoping to keep things private as they attended lottery headquarters with their legal team. Darryl and Judith Smith did say that they were blessed with being given such a substantial amount of money by the New Jersey Mega Millions lottery but that they hoped their privacy would be respected.
It was the fourth time in 2013 that a New Jersey resident had scooped the Mega Millions lotto jackpot but lottery officials say that the game provides much more in benefits for local people than just the winning numbers. 30% of revenues collected are put towards educational initiatives in the state raising almost $925 million to help beneficiaries in 2013.
The couple bought the ticket with the Mega Millions winning numbers at Vineland Truck Stop, Harding Highway in Buena, New Jersey. The numbers were 02, 20, 26, 44 and 46 with a Mega Ball number of 26.
Darryl and Judith Smith decided to take the lump sum payment for their Mega Millions lotto jackpot which netted them around $20 million before taxes. The Truck Stop store owner took a $30,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
There were plenty of other Mega Millions winners in New Jersey with 3 lucky recipients taking home prizes of $10,000 each and over 30,000 winning between $2 and $120. The Mega Millions lottery is one of the widest played lotteries in the US, available in 43 states.
Other wins in 2013 for New Jersey were in January when Angel Guallpa-Mayancela took home $65 million from the Mega Millions lottery, Pedro Quezada won $338 million in March on the New Jersey Powerball and in May, Giuseppe “Joe” Garofalo won $190 million on the Mega Millions.
It seems that New Jersey is one of the luckier states when it comes to winning big on the lottery.
