We all dream of winning the lottery but Dorset taxi-driver Malcolm Dennett, 56, always believed his £111,000 EuroMillions win was only a matter of time.
Malcolm matched five numbers in the EuroMillions draw held on July 18th and won £111,223.30 but it was a draw he shouldn’t really have been taking part in. He only plays EuroMillions when there’s a rollover. However he didn’t realise the jackpot had been won in the Tuesday July 15th draw and went ahead and purchased a ticket.
Malcolm buys his tickets from Spar/Triangle in Upton, Poole. It’s a shop that has worked wonders for him in the past. “Earlier in the year I won £1,200 on the UK Lotto so I considered it my lucky shop, with this result, it’s definitely my lucky shop!”
The lucky winner found out about his EuroMillions windfall the day after the draw as he was waiting for a fare at the taxi-rank and immediately took his winning ticket to a local newsagent who said he needed to speak to Camelot. Hearing that, Malcolm knew “I was into the big time but had no idea of the final amount.”
When he phoned his wife, Heather, she didn’t believe him as he has a habit of winding people up. Eventually Malcolm called Camelot and his wife definitely believes him now that they have more than £100,000 in the bank.
Life hasn’t always been easy for Malcolm and his family but 2014 has been a bountiful year for him. It’s not just the two lottery wins but he also received an unexpected inheritance from a dear friend.
Dennett plans to use his winnings to do some renovation work on the family home and most will be invested. They do plan one holiday though, taking their young son to see Santa in Lapland this Christmas.
There might even be some more good fortune before the end of the year. Malcolm says:“I have a feeling that there is more to come! It’s already been an amazing year for the Dennett’s, maybe it will turn into an extraordinary year for us.”
