A syndicate of lottery players who all work at the same company in Grimsby, England have accepted a huge £1 million pounds from last week’s EuroMillions Mega Draw.
The group of 27 employees at the Grimsby Company have opted to remain anonymous following their high profile win, but they did tell the local press that they are all delighted with their win. Each of the workers will receive approximately £40,000 after the million pound lottery prize was split between all of them.
Their ticket was chosen at random in Friday night’s EuroMillions draw as part of the first ever Mega Friday lottery draw, where 25 ticket holders were to receive £1 million. “As you would expect, we are all delighted,” the syndicate spokesperson told the local press as they spoke of their surprise at having discovered that they were to become EuroMillions millionaires, albeit between all 27 of them.
The spokesperson said that they found out about their EuroMillions win late on Sunday evening, two days after the draw had taken place. Their prize also included a luxury holiday for eight people to Makepeace Island, but as the group were 27 they opted to accept more cash instead, which the winner described as “a nice choice to have!”
The EuroMillions winners will therefore split £1.1 million between them, and the syndicate leader said that there are no certain plans for the money just yet. “I can’t say I have any early plans for what I will do with the money, so I’ll probably just put it in the bank to save until it sinks in,” said the anonymous winner.
The syndicate group has been playing the EuroMillions lottery for some time now, and according to one of the winners they were planning to stop playing after the New Year. “It was actually getting quite difficult to organise every week so we had agreed to wind it down from the start of next year,” they said. The group must be counting their lucky stars that they did not decide to stop playing any earlier!
