Lottery24 – Big sums of lottery prizes go unclaimed in Germany
Lottery players didn’t claim prizes of a total of €34 Million in 2013 in Germany.
Although it seems incredible, since people play the lottery in the hope of getting a win, and dreaming of hitting the jackpot, a stunning amount of €34 million in lottery prizes went unclaimed in Germany during 2013.
This was the result of a survey carried out within the 16 German Lottery Organisers across the Nation.
In most cases, German Lottery winners have a total of 13 weeks to claim their prizes. If nobody comes forward with the winning ticket, the total amount goes back to the Lottery Organisations.
In Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate and Schleswig-Holstein, a total of €2.6 million in unclaimed prizes went back to the respective state budgets.
Nationwide, the Lottery organisations paid out a total sum of €3.36 billion to lottery winners.
