A syndicate of 17 mortgage centre workers are celebrating after winning £1.1m in the EuroMillions draw held on January 30. The lucky EuroMillions winners all work for the Royal Bank of Scotland Mortgage Centre in Greenock, Scotland and began their syndicate six years ago for a laugh.

Their winning lottery ticket was purchased from Spar at 59 Princes Street in Port Glasgow. They didn’t immediately check the results of the January 30 draw; in fact it took a week for them to discover their big lottery win. Speaking about their EuroMillions lottery prize, syndicate leader Margaret Kane, 46, said: “Every Friday I take our tickets to the shop and get the assistant to check them on the machine. It was only when she said that I had to contact Camelot that I knew we’d won something big.”

Her mind was really spinning at the news of their EuroMillions lottery win. When she returned to work, Margaret called the National Lottery and was told their EuroMillions ticket had won £1.1m.

News of the EuroMillions win spread through the office “like wildfire.” The syndicate members will each receive £67,082.50 from their EuroMillions lottery windfall. “The atmosphere in the office has been amazing ever since we realized we had won and no-one can believe it’s so much.”

The winners already have some great ideas on how to spend their lottery winnings. Kane added that several of the winners want to use their new-found wealth to help pay a deposit on their first homes.

“A lot of the girls on our team have been saving to buy their first homes, and now they have enough to put down a sizeable lump sum – how ironic when we all work in a mortgage advice centre. The members of our syndicate range in ages from 29-59. This money will literally change the lives of 17 families in Greenock. It really is amazing.”

One of the syndicate members was off on a few days break and jokingly told Margaret to call her if their EuroMillions ticket won a million pounds. “She didn’t believe me when I called her” said the syndicate leader.
