PLAYER FROM CZECH REPUBLIC SCOOPS RECORD 90M EUROJACKPOT PRIZE

A ticket sold in the Czech Republic has won the record top prize of 90 million euros in the EuroJackpot lottery draw held on Friday May 15.

The massive Eurojackpot winnings comfortably beat the previous record of 61.1 million euros won by a player from Finland in September 2014. The winner has 35 days in which to claim their EuroJackpot winnings. Sazka betting company spokesman Vaclav Friedmann said once the winner has been registered and their ticket checked they will receive their winnings in 60 days. With no taxation on Czech Republic lottery winnings the EuroJackpot winner will receive their full winnings in Czech crowns.

The EuroJackpot lottery game was launched in May 2012 with initially just seven countries taking part. Since its inception Eurojackpot has continued to grow and there are now sixteen nations playing the game every week: Germany, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Finland, Croatia, Slovenia, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The big win by a player from the Czech Republic comes just seven months after the country started playing the EuroJackpot lottery game.

EuroJackpot now has a reach of 270 million players compared to 213 million for EuroMillions. Previously there had been complaints about the lack of huge jackpots. Initially the lottery had 50 main balls with five drawn out plus eight Euronumbers with two drawn out. Since last year the number of Euronumbers has been increased to ten but with two still being chosen for each EuroJackpot draw. This means there are more rollovers as the chances of winning the top prize rose from 1 in 59,325,280 to 1 in 95,344,200.

The winning numbers in the May 15 EuroJackpot draw were: 12-14-18-38-46 and the two Euronumbers 09 and 10. Three other tickets were able to match the five main numbers and one of the Euronumbers, each winning 7,643,520 euros.

The win is nearly double that of the 48 million euros EuroMillions jackpot won by a player from Spain which we reported last week. The next EuroJackpot draw is on Friday May 22 with a jackpot of 10 million euros.
