A lottery player from Delta, in the Western Canadian province of British Columbia, has claimed a huge $12.5 million jackpot after her Canadian Lotto Max ticket matched all of the correct numbers.
Lisa-Marie Draganiuk bought her ticket for the draw held last Friday June 5th, and was one of four people across the whole of Canada who took home a share of the $50 million jackpot. Ms Draganiuk’s $12.5 million will help not only the winner herself, but also her friends and family, she told lottery officials.
The Lotto Max winner purchased her ticket from a Shoppers Drug Mart store in Delta in the days leading up to the draw, but she didn’t check the ticket until almost a week later. “I was on my way home from work after getting groceries when I checked my ticket” said Ms Draganiuk of the moment on Thursday when she finally got around to realising that she had won big.
“My reaction was complete delirium! I called my husband right away in shock. People were crowding around me and they all knew I was a big winner,” the Lotto Max winner said of the scene in the store. After recovering from the shock of the big $12.5 million win, the lottery winner told officials that the person she is most excited about breaking the news to, is her mother.
“The first person I’m going to tell is my mom when I pick her up from work – from a job she never has to go back to,” the Lotto Max winner said, explaining that her mother was a single mom for the majority of her life, and Ms Draganiuk said that “she has done so much for me and I’m really looking forward to returning the favour.”
The Lotto Max winner said that big changes will be coming in her life, and her family will soon be looking for a new, bigger and better house. The largest ever lottery prizes won in British Columbia were both worth $50 million, one of which was won in October 2010 and the other was won in March 2014 by a lottery player who is still fighting to remain anonymous.
