EASTERN CANADIAN LOTTO 649 WINNER IS TAKING HER WINNINGS TRAVELLING

A 20 year old former gas station attendant has won $1 million on the Atlantic Canada Lotto 649 game, and plans to take her winnings around the world.

Jamie MacKenzie, who is from Timberlea in Nova Scotia, accepted her cheque for $1 million from Atlantic Canada Lottery Corporation officials at the end of last week, who also presented a cheque to a Nova Scotia Lotto Max winner recently, and she said that she felt her new reality was crazy. She was presented her with Lotto 649 cheque live inside the Scotiabank Centre, the downtown Halifax arena which houses the ice hockey team the Halifax Mooseheads, as family members, friends and other hockey fans all cheered her on during the intermission.

Ms MacKenzie checked her Lotto 649 ticket at work, as she works at an Ultramar gas station across the street from her house, despite having purchased the winning ticket one block away, at Fitzgerald’s Grocery store. “I went in for my six o’clock shift,” MacKenzie recounted. “I checked it on the ticket checker and it said major winner. I freaked out.”

After realising that she had won $1 million, she ran back across the street to tell her mother, Nancy, who recalls “She bolted through the doors and said, ‘Mom, I won a million dollars!’” The young winner has already quit her job at the gas station, and her last day was last week, not unlike Sharon Sellars who took the opportunity to retire when her husband won $1 million on an Atlantic Lotto scratch card.

Speaking of her plans for the future, Miss MacKenzie said that she plans to pay off her student loans from the course that she took in travel and tourism at Eastern College in Halifax, but her main priority is seeing the world, just like Welshman Clive Osbourne who left for his travels earlier this year after a win on the UK Lotto. “I plan on travelling,” she said, before describing the trip that she plans to take with two of her friends to Disney World in Florida next month, before she will start thinking about some time in Europe, allowing the money to take her wherever, she said, with places as far afield as Australia not being out of the question, just like John and Jenny Taylor, who headed down under after their EuroMillions win.

“Whatever happens, happens. I’m just going to enjoy it,” said the young Lotto 649 winner.
