A lottery player from Lansdowne in Ontario, Canada, has won a huge $54,390.40 on the Lotto 649, and is off on vacation.

Leslie Ritchie, a long-time resident of Lansdowne, close to the Thousand Islands area of Canada and almost halfway between Ottawa and Toronto, matched five numbers plus the bonus numbers in the January 25th Canadian Lotto 649 draw, and she told lottery officials that she and her husband are both excited for what the future holds. “I checked my numbers online when I found out I was a winner,” Ms Ritchie told lottery officials. “The first thing I did was share the good news with my husband, and he was excited.” A lot of lottery winners tell their partners before anyone else, such as a father from Wiltshire in England who won £100,000 on a lottery scratch card.

The Lotto 649 winner, who works as a university professor, collected her prize from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming headquarters in Toronto on February 6th, and she said that it all feels “surreal.” Another Lotto 649 winner from Ontario said she felt “uplifted” by her windfall. However, now that the mother of two has the winnings in her bank account, she is looking forward to planning for how they’ll spend the money in the future, telling Ontario Lottery officials that travel plans are definitely on the cards. Last weekend a Scottish UK Lotto winner said that he wanted to use his winnings to take his family to Disney World.

“This prize money allows me to treat my family to a vacation in the Bahamas, where we can enjoy the weather and water slides at Atlantis,” she said, outlining her first plan. An Iowan Mega Millions winner also went to Bahamas after he won $1 million. Ms Ritchie purchased her winning ticket from a Shopper’s Drug Mart pharmacy in Gananoque, but other than her vacation she didn’t have any big plans for her winnings, unlike Todd Grimes from Western Ontario when he won on the same Lotto 649 and went off on a shopping spree.

There were also three other secondary prize winning tickets purchased for the January 25th Lotto 649, but the ticket holders are yet to come forward to claim their prize money.
