A man from King in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada, has won a huge $100,000 with his Lotto Max Encore ticket, and said he thought he was dreaming.

Giuseppe di Mambro, who lives not far from another GTA lottery winner, a Brampton Lotto Max winner of $1 million, bought his winning ticket from a Shell gas station on the King Road, but told lottery officials that he never expected to win anything, just like most lottery winners including a EuroMillions syndicate from the north east of England. However, his ticket did match six out of the seven numbers in the Lotto Max Encore selection, an added extra to the regular Lotto Max game.

“I always add Encore to my lottery purchase,” Giuseppe told OLG lottery officials in Toronto. “When I saw the validation slip, I thought I was dreaming.” The winner, who claimed his prize last week in Toronto, is a married father of two and said that he bought his ticket after filling his car up with gas. Another Canadian couple recently won $100,000 on the Lotto Max Encore thanks to a suggestion from the cashier.

The day after buying the Lotto Max Encore ticket, the GTA man called in at another gas station close to his home and scanned his ticket at the self-scan ticket checking machine. When the numbers were checked by the machine, it shut down, but Giuseppe said that he knew that it was a good sign. The same thing happened to another Ontario woman who won on the Lotto Max Encore and checked the ticket on a self-scan machine.

The OLG soon called the retailer itself to tell Giuseppe of his good luck, and that he’d won $100,000 on his Lotto Max Encore ticket. The winner said that people in the line at the store also began to congratulate him on his win, and once he’d spoken to lottery officials, he called his wife.

“She didn’t believe me so I sent her a picture that the retailer took of me,” Giuseppe said. Just like a retired New York fire-fighter who planned a Caribbean vacation after winning $5 million on a lottery scratchcard, the family now plans to use the winnings to take a vacation together, either to Turks and Caicos or Aruba, and Giuseppe wants to buy himself a new pick-up truck. A portion of the winnings will also go towards paying off the mortgage.
