A 37-strong syndicate from the village of Whitegate in Co Cork, Ireland, have finally come forward to claim their €29,526 EuroMillions prize won in the September 19 EuroMillions draw.
The winning syndicate is made up of a group of friends ranging in age from their 30s to 70s. They had delayed claiming their EuroMillions prize while sorting out the necessary documentation. Their winning ticket matched the five main numbers in the September 19 EuroMillions draw. The numbers drawn out were 01 – 08 – 21 – 30 – 45. If they had been able to match the two Lucky Stars 02 and 03, they’d really have been smiling as they’d have won the £123,9 (€139.5) jackpot . The jackpot kept on climbing until a ticket sold in the El Mirador Shopping Centre in Las Palmas on Gran Canaria, Spain, won the €190m EuroMillions jackpot.
Their EuroMillions winnings of €29,526 will be split 37 ways, meaning that every member of the syndicate will get exactly €798 – a handy amount to receive just before Christmas. The syndicate bought their winning EuroMillions ticket from the Texaco service station on the Cork Road in Midleton, Co Cork.
Their EuroMillions win is the latest lottery success in Co Cork after Eugene O’Sullivan won a €3.8m Irish Lotto jackpot. There was more success in Ireland when Jim Carroll from Kildare scooped a €500,000 Irish Lotto prize.
It’s been a busy couple of months for syndicate leader Jimmy Morgan who had to sort out all the papers and signatures, but he got there in the end. “It’s not easy to get 37 people in the one place at the one time so I’ve been ticking away at getting everyone’s forms filled in and signed but it is definitely well worth the effort,” he said. Marvin and Mae Acosta from Chino Hills in California, USA, took six months before coming forward to claim their $528.8m Powerball winnings.
Syndicates have had a great amount of success playing the EuroMillions draw. A syndicate of marathon runners from Penzance in Cornwall, England, won £1m playing EuroMillions. Doing even better was a group of 22 Dublin bus drivers, who landed a €24 million EuroMillions jackpot.
Morgan added that the syndicate are thrilled with their EuroMillions win, saying that they have never had a win anywhere near this amount. He added, “The gang now have a nice extra little bonus in time for Christmas.”
