The €38.9m EuroMillions jackpot won in the December 29, 2017 draw, has finally been claimed. A small family syndicate from Dublin has come forward to accept what they describe as a “life-changing” windfall.

The winning EuroMillions syndicate have asked to remain anonymous. That’s just like the recent $10m Australian Powerball jackpot winner.

Their winning EuroMillions ticket had been purchased from the Village Shop in Malahide, owned by Ken and Amy Cong. The syndicate told how the week since their EuroMillions win had been a blur as they slowly come to terms with the fact that they are now lottery millionaires.

A family spokesman said they are now secure for the rest of their lives but quickly commented, “But we won’t go crazy. We have no plans to move to the moon.” The syndicate member added that he regularly plays EuroMillions and had gone through his usual routine of checking his ticket at the shop, the morning after the draw. “A message came up to contact the National Lottery. I knew then we had won. I was dizzy.” Christina Ford from Georgia, USA, felt she was in a dream after her $7.5m Mega Millions win.

When he told the rest of the family there were lots of tears and laughter and the EuroMillions winners believe their dreams have come true. They had a friend staying with them and he said he couldn’t believe he was sleeping under the same roof as people who had won almost €39 million!

It’s the latest big win for Irish lottery syndicates after a €29,526m EuroMillions jackpot windfall last September. Two months before that, a syndicate in the West of Ireland won a €29m EuroMillions top prize.

Over a week went by before they claimed their EuroMilliions prize and they watched the speculation on their television. “We kept saying: ‘This is us!'” The EuroMillions winning family say they haven’t had much sleep in the last week. That’s just like $1m Mega Millions winner Lisa Schmidt from Oregon, USA.

The winning syndicate plan to take their time before deciding how to spend their EuroMillions winnings. Some changes are planned though, and they would like to start their own business. Buying a new house is also in their spending plans as well as a holiday in May or June. The Bahamas or the Maldives are on their shortlist. What is most important to them though is being able to look after their family.
