A Christmas Tradition

The El Gordo de Navidad was first held in 1812 and is as part of Christmas in Spain as roast turkey, trees and presents. In fact, a lot of people buy tickets for this draw and then give them as presents to their friends and relatives. Perhaps you should do the same this year, who knows it could win them a great prize. Even the actual draw is quite different from others held around the world. The winning numbers are sung by schoolchildren.

The tickets for the El Gordo de Navidad are a bit different from the ones you usually buy from the Lottery24 site. Each ticket or Billete has a five-digit number and is divided into 10 décimos (tenths of a ticket). The most common purchase is a decimo.

As mentioned earlier, there is a massive €2.408bn El Gordo de Navidad prize fund. There isn’t just one big winner though, even the smaller prizes are going to put a big smile on your face. There are so many smaller prizes... among them, the draw has 1,794 prizes that are called ‘La Pedrea’ and each worth €1,000 each.

Get Ready for the TV Advert

The lead up to the El Gordo de Navidad draw sees a special TV advert being shown. It usually has a special theme and can often be very emotional. One showed a lonely late-night watchman who received a jackpot winning ticket from his work colleagues.

Could you be a big winner this year and land the top prize that sees each ticket holder win €400,000? What will it be this year? Hopefully, it’ll be the one that you buy from Lottery24.
