Powerball Winner Patricia Chandler
PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM FOR POWERBALL WINNER PATRICIA CHANDLER
Powerball Winner Patricia Chandler from Upper Darby in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania won the Powerball jackpot in the draw that took place on 22nd June 2013.
The social worker in her late 40s took a little Philadelphia Freedom and left her home and job, seeking privacy and avoiding the usual press campaign that follows big lottery winners, and neighbours say they haven’t seen her in weeks following her life changing Powerball results.
POWERBALL WINNER VERY PRIVATE
Chandler presented her Powerball jackpot winning ticket for validation at Pennsylvania’s Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County. The jackpot amounted to $131.5 million although officials said that Chandler had elected to take the $77,412,904.72 cash option, after the federal government taxes of 25% were deducted. She also asked for privacy.
Mario Scarnici won $448.4 million in August 2013 and also requested privacy, even unwilling to attened the celebratory press event for his Powerball jackpot.
BEER STORE EARNS $100K BONUS FOR SELLING THE WINNING TICKET
The ticket containing the winning Powerball numbers was bought from Federal Beer on the corner of 15th and Federal Streets in Point Breeze. Chandler’s workplace, a non-profit organisation called Programs Employing People, is close by and Chandler has reportedly left her own job.
Much like John Brands who won $96.5 million with his wife Susan in March 2014 and left his job as a civil engineer straight away.
Gary Patel, manager of the Federal Beer, was delighted Patricia chose to play Powerball at his store which earned a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
PENNSYLVANIA STATE LOTTERY
This Pennsylvania Powerball lottery win was the fourth-largest prize ever given by the state lottery.
The Pennsylvania Lottery is the only state lottery that gives all its proceeds to benefit older residents. Since it began in 1971, it has contributed almost $23.7 billion to programs that include property tax and rent rebates; free and reduced-fare transport; low-cost prescription drug programs; long-term living services and senior centres throughout the state.
Another ticket won its owner $2 million for matching five numbers in the Powerball draw, and a further three won $1 million for matching five numbers.
