Back to news

On January 5th, 20-year-old Shane Missler from Port Richey in Florida, USA, made a brief post on his Facebook page simply saying “Oh. My. God.” Now we know the story behind that post because Shane has come forward to claim his $450m Mega Millions jackpot. The young winner isn’t even old enough to drink in the state of Florida, unlike the Rum For Me Syndicate from Ireland, named after their favourite drink who won a €556,194 EuroMillions prize. In Scotland, Jane Park was only 18 when winning £1m playing EuroMillions. He purchased his winning Mega Millions ticket from a 7-Eleven in Port Richey, not too far from another 7-Eleven that sold a $4m winning lottery ticket. On Friday January 12, the Mega Millions jackpot winner was seen clutching a yellow envelope when arriving at Lottery HQ in Tallahassee to claim his winnings. He was accompanied by his father and his lawyer. The past week has seen the Mega Millions winner have what he calls, " a crash course this week in financial management.” He will accept his windfall as a one-off payment of $281,874,999. It’ll be paid into a trust, set up with Missler as the managing member, called "Secret 007, LLC."The Mega Millions winner added that, "If there is one thing I have learned thus far in my short time on this earth it is that those who maintain a positive mindset and stay true to themselves get rewarded."The lucky Mega Millions winner said he wasn’t surprised at his jackpot win and added that he had “a feeling” that he might win. After discovering soon after the draw that his Mega Millions ticket matched 28-30-39-59-70 and the Mega Ball 10, the first person he contacted was his brother, then he made that cryptic Facebook post. The following day, he shared the news of his Mega Millions win with his father over a cup of coffee.Missler has already retired from his job at a background screening company. That’s like Dr Peter Hayashida from Canada who took early retirement after winning a $20.5m Lotto 6/49 jackpot. Not so, Karl Krumbholz from Iowa, USA who went back to work despite a $2m Powerball win.Shane is planning to move away from Port Richey. He wants to have some fun, while taking care of his family and "cement a path for financial success so that I can leave a legacy far into the future."Try your hand at the lottery game and purchase your tickets online at
