MISTAKE LEADS TO $976,000 AUSTRALIAN SATURDAY LOTTO WIN

We’ve previously told you how the Woolstores Lottery Centre in Freemantle in Western Australia had sold two winning Saturday Lotto tickets worth $976,000 for the December 16 draw. Now we can tell you that one of the winners has claimed their prize, but it was all down to a mistake made while buying his ticket.

The lucky player has asked to remain anonymous, just like the recent $10m Australian Powerball winner from Queensland. He wanted to buy his usual Slikpik 25 but instead accidentally got a Slikpik 50 ticket instead. ‘Thank god I made the stuff-up because it won on line 44!’ the lucky Saturday Lotto player joked.

Mistakes can happen and that’s what happened to Lee Kirk from England who was supposed to be buying a UK Lotto ticket but made an error and ended up winning £50,396 playing EuroMillions. In France a woman thought she’d won a big EuroMillions windfall but then after spending lots of money found out that in fact she hadn’t won after all. Jane and Alan Slater from The Isle of Wight both went out and purchased tickets and both of them won a £149,089.30 EuroMillions prize.

Sometimes it can be the person selling the ticket that makes the mistake. That’s what happened to Michael Doyle in Michigan, USA, who was sold the wrong ticket but celebrated when his Powerball ticket won him $1m.

When he discovered that his Saturday Lotto ticket was one of two Western Australia First Division winners, the lucky player thought it might be an ‘electrical phenomenon’ or he was seeing things after attending a Christmas party the previous evening. Patricia Busking from Palos Heights in Illinois, USA, won a $393m Mega Millions jackpot and said discovering the win was an “out of body” experience.

We do know that the Saturday Lotto winner is middle-aged and says that he will use some of his Saturday Lotto win to buy himself the ultimate bachelor pad after years of renting properties. Top of his wish list is new television and for a long time he’s been dreaming of a 55-inch TV and joked ‘it’s going to be a real whopper.’

The winning numbers in the December 16 Saturday Lotto were 01-05-26-28-39-45. There were four winners of that amount with the other lucky players yet to claim their winnings. The other Western Australia winner purchased their winning ticket from Woolstores Lottery Centre.
