A man from Monroe County in Michigan has claimed his $2 million prize won on a Michigan Lottery Multiplier Spectacular scratch card game, a month after first buying the ticket.

The lucky winner, who chose to remain anonymous when he claimed the prize from Michigan Lottery officials, said that he waited so long because he wanted to come up with a sensible plan for his windfall. A man from Toronto in Canada waited a month to claim a $30 million Lotto Max jackpot while he sought legal advice.

The Michigan man bought his winnings scratch card from Lightning Quick Gas N Go on Saline Street in Petersburg, and scratched it off when he got home. Another Michigan Lottery player won big on a Bingo Plus scratch card, all thanks to a birthday present.

The $2 million winner said that he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, and had to get his wife to double check. “I called for my wife to come read the ticket and when she saw it, her eyes lit up, so I knew we were winners!” A Michigan Lottery scratch card winner from Oakland County thought she was seeing things when she won $100,000.

Last week the lottery player visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize as a lump-sum, which will equal around $1.3 million after taxes are withdrawn. The winner said he spent a month developing a plan for his fortune, and he doesn’t want to be frivolous.

“I did a lot of reading about how to be wise with this money,” the 56-year-old scratch card winner said. A EuroMillions winner from Cork in Ireland also wanted to make sensible decisions with his €500,000 jackpot. “We decided that we’ll invest it in to a retirement account and maybe retire a little earlier than we’d planned.” A man from Ontario in Canada decided to retire straight away after winning $1.6 million on the Lotto 649.

The scratch card player continued to talk about how he felt after winning; “It’s an awesome feeling to win. You never think this is going to happen to you, and it’s amazing when it does.” The $2 million prize was the highest available on the Multiplier Spectacular, and there are two more remaining.
