VIRGINIA MAN WINS $1 MILLION ON MEGA MILLIONS TO GO TOWARDS CHILDREN’S EDUCATION
A man from Virginia in the USA has won $1 million on the multi-state Mega Millions lottery and said the winnings will go towards his children’s education.
Marcus Cobb, from Dale City in Virginia, won his $1 million in the Mega Millions drawing on January 5th, when his quick pick ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Mega Ball. The lucky winner matched numbers 28, 30, 39, 59, and 70, and if he’d also matched Mega Ball 10, Mr Cobb would have won the jackpot that evening of $450 million.
Just like a Michigan man who didn’t check his Powerball ticket for a while before realising he’d won $1 million, the lucky Virginia winner told lottery officials that he didn’t check his ticket immediately after the draw, even though he knew there was a local winner, because he’d heard that someone else had come forward to claim the $1 million prize. However, when he did get around to checking he soon realised that he was a big time Mega Millions winner. Another Virginia man who last year won $1 million on the Mega Millions said he kept feeling like he was going to wake up from a dream.
“I looked at my ticket and I was stunned,” Mr Cobb told Virginia Lottery officials. “I looked at the ticket again and again, and then I started yelling to wake everyone up,” he continued. A man from Ontario who won $12 million on the Canadian Lotto 649 ran home from the store to wake up his family after he found out about his big win.
The winning ticket, which was an Easy Pick ticket where the computer randomly selects the numbers for the drawing, was purchased at a Shell gas station on Gideon Drive in Woodbridge, Virginia. The Virginia Lottery said that the store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling a winning Mega Millions ticket.
Mr Cobb told lottery officials that he and his wife have decided to save their $1 million Mega Millions winnings to pay for their children’s college educations. A Californian scratch card winner planned to open a savings account for his children’s futures, while a man from Brooklyn who won $7 million on a Cash4Life lottery ticket said that a lot of his winnings would go towards college educations for his children.
