A group of colleagues from Ontario in Canada have shared a huge $367,156 prize by playing the national Lotto Max game together earlier this month.

On February 16th, 2018, the Lotto Max ticket belonging to the group of eight colleagues won one of the top prizes in the drawing, and the group all said that they felt that their win was surreal. “It was a surreal feeling – I started shaking!” said Karen Watt, the group leader, and the first in the group to find out about their Lotto Max success. Two Irish sisters who won €500,000 on the EuroMillions said that they had similar reactions when they found out about their big win.

The eight colleagues have been playing the Lotto Max together for around eight months, and Ms Watt said that when she found out that they’d won such a huge prize together, she called her boss. “I told her to make sure that everyone was coming in on Tuesday,” the syndicate leader said, “when she asked why, I told her that we all had to take a trip to the OLG Prize Centre!”Five friends from Kitchener in southern Ontario also shared a Lotto Max prize recently, while a syndicate of nine colleagues from Montreal in Québec split a huge $60 million Lotto Max jackpot at the end of last year.

The winners are all from the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, from towns such as Oakville, Mississauga, Brampton, Ajax and Toronto itself. A couple from Brampton were also recently at the OLG Prize centre when they claimed a $1 million Lotto Max prize. Once they all attended OLG headquarters in Toronto, the lucky eight said that they have a mix of plans for their shares of the cash.

Plans include paying off bills and student loans, sharing some of their fortune with family members and taking it travelling. “We are going to continue playing the lottery together,” Ms Watt added. An Ontario scratch card winner planned to fulfil her dream of travelling to Europe after winning $100,000.

Their winnings ticket was purchased from Oakville Gardens Variety store on Sixth Line in Oakville.
