A plasterer from Cork in Ireland has collected €30,000 in prize money from the National Lottery after getting lucky on a scratch card.
Simon O’Leary collected his prize from National Lottery officials in Dublin last week, and he couldn’t hide his excitement at turning a few euros into €30,000. The 32-year-old won his prize on an All Cash Tripler scratch card which he purchased from a Supervalu store in Ballincollig, Co Cork, and he took friends and family with him to Dublin to collect his prize. Last year we told you about a construction worker from Scotland who won big on a scratch card and shocked all of his workmates with his good luck.
The lottery winner told lottery officials, “I’m still in a bit of shock to be honest,” as he posed with his €30,000 scratch card prize winning cheque and his mother Kathleen, brother Nigel and friend James who had all made the journey specially to support Mr O’Leary as he claimed his scratch card prize. Another tradie who won big on the lottery was a Scottish National Lottery scratch card winner who couldn’t believe his eyes when he scratched off his ticket on his lunch break.
“Very occasionally, I pick up a scratch card on my way home from work on a Friday evening. I never expected to win €30,000,” the occasional lottery player admitted. Recently an Irish Lotto prize worth over €35,000 was claimed just three days before the expiry date! The lottery scratch card winner said that he didn’t scratch the ticket off until he got home, when he did it with his mother and brothers all present. “The place just went wild,” Mr O’Leary said. “It was certainly a weekend to remember!” A woman from Iowa in the USA already had plenty to celebrate over winning a scratch card prize which only added to her weekend of festivities.
The lucky scratch card winner said that he hasn’t had time to think about how he will spend his winnings, but he’s not going to rush into anything. “I’m going to take my time so that I can make the most of the €30,000 prize,” he added. “I’ll obviously have to look after my mother and family and I might get myself a small car to get me by.” Mr O’Leary didn’t reveal whether he plans to continue working, like another Cork lottery winner who took home over €250,000 on the EuroMillions and then went back to work.
