Marion Gorham from Dundalk in Ireland who is a mother of ten won €61,933 in the May 12 Irish Lotto draw but it took her a while to work out how much she’d won.

The winning numbers in the May 12 Irish Lotto draw were 05-06-14-19-22-30 and the Bonus Ball 24. Marion’s ticket, which was purchased from the Dunnes Store in the Marshes Shopping Centre, matched five of the main balls and the bonus ball.

Her Irish Lotto numbers are based on family birthdays just like the $1.9m Multi-Match jackpot winner from Maryland, USA. Initially Mrs Gorham thought she’d won €7,500 and called her sister to confirm how much the runners-up prize was. “I nearly had to be pulled up off the floor when she told me it was for €41,933!” In England, Amanda Lewis thought her ticket was worthless but then checked the Millionaire Maker Code and discovered she’s won a £1m EuroMillions prize.

The following day she looked at her ticket again and saw details of the May Getaway promotion that awarded a €20,000 luxury holiday to winners of the second-tier prize. It took phone calls to her sister and the National Lottery to convince her of her total win.

Marion hasn’t been on holiday for ten years but that was about to change as she is due to go to Florida, USA, this month to see her new granddaughter. The Irish Lotto winner said of her win: “This money is life-changing for me. I’ve worked hard my whole life, so I’m absolutely delighted with the win.” She plans to share her winnings with her family and said, “it will go a very long way.”

Her best Irish Lotto win in fifteen years had only been €54. In the USA, a Kansas syndicate played for the same amount of time before a $50,000 Powerball win. Some players might be disappointed at being one number off the jackpot. That’s how English couple Jan and Paul French felt after coming close to winning a £124m EuroMillions jackpot.

Not this one though and she commented “for me, this is like winning the Lotto.” The Irish Lotto jackpot was actually won in the May 12 draw with one lucky ticket scooping €8,549,067.

The Irish Lotto winner plans to keep on using her lucky numbers. Perhaps she’ll get another win just like the man from Sydney, Australia who scooped two lottery jackpots in the same week.
