David Brown and Emanoil (Mike) Kopoulos from Orangeville in Ontario, Canada, couldn’t believe It when they won $20.48m in the March 21 Lotto 6/49 draw but it took a little while before they could receive their winnings.

Mr Kopoulos works as a metal recycler and is known locally as ‘Metal Head Mike.’ He was the one who found out about the $20,481,125.50 Lotto 6/49 win and recalls how he couldn’t stop screaming and shaking.

He contacted his friend David Brown, but rather than telling him right away about the Lotto 6/49 win, he said he had some work for him. When his friend arrived, then he told him the real reason he wanted to speak to him and the screaming started all over again.

Brown, who is a self-employed father of three, was so overwhelmed by news of the Lotto 6/49 win that he had to take a picture of the winning ticket. It’s the latest win for a self-employed person after Englishman Jamie Evans won £3m on a scratchcard.

The lucky pair are going to share the Lotto 6/49 windfall just as a pair of friends in America did with a $50,000 Powerball prize. A recent Lotto NZ survey claimed it’s New Zealand lottery winners who are the most generous when it comes to sharing wins.

However, the Lotto 6/49 win couldn’t be paid out immediately as Mr Kopoulos’ sister is an Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission employee and that meant he fitted into the description of a possible ‘insider win.’ An investigation had to be carried out to check everything was ok and thankfully it was and th0eir Lotto 6/49 win could be paid out. That also happened to a syndicate from Ontario, Canada that won a $40m Lotto 6/49 jackpot.

The lucky winners of the Lotto 6/49 jackpot say they will use their winnings to help family and friends, pay off mortgages, go travelling and buy equipment for their businesses. It’s the latest big win in Ontario after a syndicate won a $172,314.20 Lotto Max windfall.

Mr Brown wants to use his share of the Lotto 6/49 win to help the community that he has lived in for most of his life. “I want to give back to those that have supported us, and help out other local small businesses,” he said.

Their winning Lotto 6/49 ticket was purchased at Petro Canada on Broadway in Orangeville. It matched 01-05-09-12-39-41 to land the jackpot.
