A player from Maryland, USA, known only as ‘Ravens Millionaire’ has won $1m in the August 10 Mega Millions draw but stresses the win won’t change him.

The lucky Mega Millions player was the only one to win the second-tier prize in that draw. He’s asked not for his real name to be revealed, so the Southern Maryland player has been given the nickname ‘Ravens Millionaire’ as he’s a massive fan of the Baltimore Ravens American Football team.  They love their nicknames in Maryland, a recent $50,000 Powerball winner was given the name ‘Better Late than Never’ after taking several months to claim her prize.

The $1m Mega Millions winner was waiting for a classic car loving friend and decided to pop into Lee’s Market in Indian Head to buy a ticket for the August 10 Mega Millions draw and some for the following days Powerball draw.

The 58-year-old was visiting his mother last weekend when he and his sister decided to check some lottery tickets online to see if they were winners and they included his Mega Millions ticket. “To my surprise, my Mega Million numbers came out as straight as an arrow.”

Some lottery winners immediately start celebrating but this Mega Millions winner said he was “calm about it” but ran into problems when getting on the phone to tell his wife, son and daughter the amazing news of their Mega Millions win as none of them answered him.

He did finally get in touch with them and they accompanied him when collecting their $1m Mega Millions prize at Maryland Lottery HQ on Monday August 13. Spending plans for the Mega Millions winner include buying his wife and son new cars. $1m Lotto Max winner Carol Knipefel from Ontario, Canada, wanted a new Buick SV after her win.

It’s the latest win in Maryland after Stephen Harker won a $37,539 prize on the Keno game. Also celebrating was Ilyas Terzi after his $250,000 win on a Quarter Millions Large scratchcard.

He also wants to make some investments. “Winning this kind of money is quite exciting, especially with all of the possibilities it can bring,” said the Mega Millions winner. “Life will definitely change a little but I’m still the same guy.”

The Mega Millions winner is an engineer, but it’s not known if he plans to retire. The winners of a recent $543m Mega Millions jackpot all said they would continue working.
