A trip down to the beach was the plan for James Smith from Pennsylvania, USA, while on holiday in Maryland but on the way, he purchased a Keno ticket and it won him $15,000.
It was the Labor Day weekend in the USA and Mr Smith decided that after ten years he and his partner would celebrate it for the first time with a one-night trip. They were going to enjoy themselves taking in the views of the Atlantic Ocean while on the Boardwalk. In Ireland, a syndicate leader went on holiday not knowing he had a £1m winning EuroMillions ticket on him.
On their way though they decided to stop off at the Brass Balls Saloon at 1105 North Boardwalk, Ocean City and while there, James bought a Keno ticket. He randomly chose the numbers 08-13-25-42-47-74 and when the numbers flashed on the Keno monitor, he knew a win had occurred. However, he didn’t know how much his Keno win was.
That’s just like the recent $6m New Zealand Powerball winner who at first though his ticket was worth $6000.
The 40-year-old initially thought it was a small win, so he asked the cashier to check his Keno ticket. “She said, ‘You guys just won $15,000,’ and the whole bar went crazy!” James said. “I got lucky.” When a man from Maryland discovered his $50,000 Powerball win, the whole store started celebrating his luck.
The Keno winner is a regular player of scratchcards while his wife prefers to play Mega Millions and Powerball. Pennsylvania has only recently introduced the Keno game in May of this year and Smith has yet to play it in his own state, though he’ll probably start doing so when he returns home. It’s the latest Keno win in Maryland after “Keno Captain’ won a $12,506 Keno prize.
The Keno winning couple, who have four daughters. plan on using some of their winnings to go on a longer family beach holiday this autumn. Only three of their daughters will be able to attend though as one will be out of state. Welshman David Godfrey is taking his mother on holiday to New York after his £100,000 National Lottery Magenta scratchcard win.
The Brass Balls Saloon will earn a bonus of $150 from the Maryland Lottery for selling a winning Keno ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the winning total.
