Lottery Prize goes to six best friends who all work at the same pub
A group of six Australian friends have claimed a Tatts lottery prize worth $200,000. Even better, the syndicate members all work in the same pub.
A short-lived Northern Territory mystery
For a few days, nobody claimed the lottery prize apart from knowing that the ticket was purchased in Darwin, Australia.
Tatts Lotto had to wait for the winners to come forward as the ticket was not registered.
After a week, the group came forward and eventually claimed the prize at lottery headquarters. They will split the prize six ways, with each of them taking home just over $33,000.
Excited to celebrate their good fortune
“We all work together at a local pub and we’re best mates so it couldn’t get any better,” said one of the winners as they claimed the prize. “A couple of my mates couldn’t contain themselves.” They added that it was “hilarious” to watch the reactions.
As reported by the Katharine Times, the Northern Territory winners have only been playing together for a couple of months. They’ve been buying lottery tickets every Thursday since the syndicate began. “It’s been a roaring success,” they said.
Using their lottery prize to keep the party going
The lottery prize winners said that they will be celebrating their $200,000 win with a few drinks. Then they’ll each think about how to spend their $33,000 portion.
“We will probably just use it to pay off some bills and party,” one of the winners said.
Casuarina Nextra News in Darwin sold the winning Tatts Lotto entry. It was the first big win for the store in several years.
Casuarina Nextra News manager Melissa Peacock said she was thrilled to see the prize won by locals.
“We were so excited when we realised we’d sold a division one winning entry and we’re so happy to see it claimed by a group of locals,” she said.
