Irish Lottery winner who battled cancer wins €795,450
Winning the Irish lottery is the second biggest victory of his life after surviving cancer
Picking up a cheque for close to €800,000, this Irish Lottery winner says this victory is nothing compared to successfully beating cancer.
The Irish National Lottery has revealed that the man from County Kildare has been dealing with a life-threatening cancer diagnosis.
The winner has decided to stay anonymous after picking up his winnings from National Lottery headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.
He was the recent winner of €795,450 jackpot from the 15 May draw of the Irish Lotto. They managed to match 5 numbers plus the bonus ball to win the record second tier amount.
If he had matched one more number though he would have taken the €5,683,438 jackpot.
Health over wealth for this Irish Lottery winner
After collecting his win, he spoke with Lottery officials and stated that his ‘health is more important than his wealth’.
He continued: “I would definitely consider myself incredibly lucky in life and this huge Lotto win just confirms that.”
The National Lottery also revealed the winner is a dad and plans to share his new found wealth with his family.
“We’ve already planned to pay off the mortgage and have a nice long family holiday in the next couple of weeks,” said the winner.
The ticket was sold at a Texaco and Spar motorway services area and had store attendants trying to guess who could have won.
The store manager originally said: “We’re delighted to have sold the winning ticket in the Spar store here. There is a great buzz about the place this morning.”
On Sunday there was another big Lotto win after a jackpot worth €6,197,310. The lottery winner has yet to come forward though. The National Lottery is urging players to check their tickets and instantly sign it before contacting them.
