$20m Lotto 6/49 Win after Using Same Numbers for 36 Years

Sometimes in life you just have to be patient. That’s been the case with Stephen Dixon from Scarborough in Ontario, Canada. He’s been using the same lottery numbers for the past 36 years and finally they have won him a $20 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot on July 9.

Such is the faith that Stephen has in his numbers, he has used them in two different lotteries. Initially, he started using them for a lottery called Wintario. Despite not having a great deal of luck, the 70-year-old switched them to the Lotto 6/49 game.

Significant numbers

 The numbers mean a lot to him (even more so now) because they are “significant family dates.” Finally on July 9 his luck changed and those special numbers won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot.

He didn’t check the results of the latest draw. Only when his son reminded him to do so did he do that. While out running some errands, he went to the Sunstar Convenience Store and used one of their lottery machines.

Cue a massive shock for Stephen when it said ‘Big Winner’ and $20 million was mentioned. Naturally that rather surprised him and he thought it was just an advertisement for the next draw. He asked a store clerk for assistance and she shouted “Oh my God, you’ve won the big one.”

You would have thought it was the store clerk who had won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot. She began to start dancing and then other customers in the store began to celebrate with the actual winner.

When he told his wife, she thought the win was only $20,000. When told the real amount she thought he was playing a prank on her..

It’s about family

Stephen says that his win won’t see him going out buying lots of possessions. “It’s about family,” he says and now plans on taking them on holidays around the world. The plan is to be “creating stories that will last  a few lifetimes.”
