A ticket sold in Texas, USA won the $810 million Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday. It’s the third time this year the top prize has been won.

It was the only one able to match: 01-02-16-24-66 and the Mega Ball 06. Whoever has won the jackpot can either receive their winnings in 30 payments or a one-off $402 million, both subject to tax.
Largest September win
The $810 million win is the largest ever Mega Millions jackpot in the month of September. There have only been six higher jackpots won in the history of the lottery.
This is the first Mega MIllions jackpot win since a ticket sold in Illinois, USA won a $552 million top prize.
Players in Texas were first able to play Mega Millions in 2003. This is the 15th time a Texan ticket has won the jackpot.
It’s the first jackpot win for the state of Texas since October 2023. On that occasion, the Blue Yucca Trust won the $361 million top prize.
New Jersey win not claimed yet
The largest Mega Millions jackpot win of the year came in March. $1.128 billion was won by a ticket purchased in New Jersey, USA. However, just who won the jackpot remains a mystery as the winner is yet to claim their winnings.
Those lucky enough to win a jackpot in New Jersey can wait up to a year before claiming their Mega Millions win. The Texas winner has 180 days in which to come forward and claim their $810 million win.
We may never know who the winner is even when their prize is claimed. Players in New Jersey have the right to remain anonymous. They do have to show proper identification when going to lottery HQ to claim their prize.
The next Mega Millions draw is on Friday and the jackpot goes back to $20 million.
