A man from North Carolina shares a joyous moment with a store clerk after winning a whopping $2 million lottery prize.
A Mother's Blessing: Maryland Woman Wins $1 Million Lottery Prize

In the heart of Maryland, an extraordinary tale unfolded as a local woman won the top prize of $1 million in the inaugural Holiday Raffle organized by the Maryland Lottery. But this is not just another lottery win story. The winner, Karen L. from Rosedale, believes her late mother played a part in her good fortune.
A Heartwarming Connection
Karen never anticipated that purchasing a Holiday Raffle ticket from a 7-Eleven on Reisterstown Road in Pikesville would change her life forever. She was accustomed to buying Mega Millions, Powerball, and scratch-off tickets within her weekly lottery budget. However, something about the new $20 Holiday Raffle tickets piqued her interest.
On January 2nd, the Lottery drew the winning number 136188. Karen didn't check her ticket immediately and only discovered she had won several days later. At first, she thought she might have won one of the ten second-tier prizes of $100,000. The thought of winning the top prize of $1 million seemed too good to be true.
The Surprise Revelation
When Karen handed over her ticket to a store clerk for verification, she received an astonishing prediction from them. "She said to me, 'It's you. I know it's you,'" Karen narrated while recalling her conversation with the clerk at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore after claiming her prize on January 7th.
But what made this win truly special for Karen wasn't just the seven-figure prize. It was the date of the draw, January 2nd, which coincided with her late mother's birthday. She couldn't help but feel that her mother had a hand in her win. "I think it is my mom again," she shared with the Lottery staff, "She is helping me with my retirement."
Planning for the Future
Among all the tickets numbered from 000001 to 237206, Karen's was the one that bagged the $1 million top prize. She plans to use her windfall wisely: buying a new car, renovating her home, and bolstering her savings and finances. "It still hasn't hit me yet," she admitted in a press release.
The Maryland Lottery's Holiday Raffle had a total of 325,000 tickets for sale, and successfully sold 237,206 of them. The winning numbers can be found on Lottery Post's Maryland Lottery Results page.
In this tale of luck and serendipity, Karen's story serves as an intriguing reminder that sometimes winning is more than just about beating the odds; it can also be about personal connections and cherished memories.
