A Super Bowl Surprise: Pennsylvania Lottery Player Hits the Jackpot of Experiences

In a twist worthy of a Hollywood script, Joanne Dimitt, a retired car rental industry worker from Pennsylvania, found herself living out a dream she never knew she had. It all began with an ordinary lottery ticket and ended with a whirlwind experience at the most-watched sports event in America - the Super Bowl.

The Unexpected Phone Call

Joanne and her husband Mike, both retirees from the car rental industry, had been married for 28 years. Their lives revolved around early morning shifts and inventory sheets. In their retirement, they decided to try their luck with the Pennsylvania Lottery's "The Big Game" second-chance drawing. Joanne entered their non-winning draw game ticket into the draw, not expecting much.

One day, their phone rang. On the other end was an official from the Lottery informing them they had won. The news took Joanne by surprise; it was too grand, too surreal. She initially hesitated to accept it but Mike convinced her to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

A First-Class Super Bowl Experience

What followed was beyond anything they could have imagined. The prize included two tickets to the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California, complete with round-trip airfare, four-night hotel stay, ground transportation and $1,000 in spending money.

The couple found themselves rubbing shoulders with celebrities at the Pro Football Hall of Fame's annual Merlin Olsen Luncheon and exploring Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. They were also given access to SBXTRA tickets to the NFL Experience, the Official Hall of Fame Pre-Game Tailgate, and the 2026 Championship Game.

Joanne, a lifelong Steelers fan, was starstruck when she met former Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann at the luncheon. "Sitting there, just a few feet away from him, felt surreal," she recollected fondly.

The Culinary Delight

The couple was also treated to gastronomic delights throughout their stay. They were introduced to an array of delectable dishes at a Brazilian steakhouse on their first night. Joanne couldn't believe her luck as she savored the lobster and endless cuts of meat, all while sharing laughter with Mike.

The Main Event

All these experiences were merely the prelude to the main event - The Super Bowl. As they approached Levi's Stadium on game day, Joanne was overwhelmed with excitement. They had access to a private tailgate before the game and their seats were closer to the field than they had anticipated.

"The crowd roared, fireworks exploded overhead, and the energy was something I'll never forget," Dimitt said in a press release. Throughout their trip, they also made lasting friendships with other winners in the second-chance drawing.

A Second Chance Well Spent

Interestingly, this wasn't Joanne's first win in a second-chance drawing from the Pennsylvania Lottery. Years ago, she won tickets to see American Idol but chose the cash option for necessary home renovations. However, this Super Bowl experience was truly one-of-a-kind.

Looking back at her career in car rental industry where she met several notable figures like Mark Zuckerberg and Dwight Yoakam, Joanne feels that her lottery win and the subsequent Super Bowl experience overshadows all those encounters. "And I still can't believe it," the winner said. "I'm just so glad I went."
