An Incredible Year of Lottery Wins
It’s been an incredible year for lottery players all over the world. There have been some massive wins and records have been broken. Let’s look back at some of the largest wins of the year.
January saw two massive lottery jackpot wins in the USA. On the 20th day of the year, a ticket sold in Maryland won a $731.1 million Powerball jackpot. 125 days later, ‘The Power Pack’ syndicate claimed their winnings.
That remained the largest Powerball win of 2021. A Californian player got close though with a $699.8 million win in the October 4 draw.
Over a Billion Dollars
The largest win of the year came on January 22. One ticket sold to a four-member lottery club in Michigan won a £1.05 billion prize. The winners remained anonymous, but their attorney said they intended remaining humble and help local charities.
It’s been a record-breaking year for the EuroMillions lottery. A Superdraw and several rollovers saw the €210 million jackpot cap reached. Finally, the jackpot was won on February 26by a ticket sold in Switzerland, winning CHF230,223,000.00.
A new record
A similar chain of events took place in September and October. The September 24 Superdraw rolled over and the new record jackpot cap of €220 million was eventually won by a ticket sold in France on October 15.
Only this week, another French ticket won a €79.4 million jackpot in the December 28 draw. Not the largest of lottery wins but it broke another record. It was the 105th ticket sold in France to win a EuroMillions jackpot, more wins than any other nation.
The win took them one clear of the UK and two ahead of Spain. It was the Spaniards who had most jackpot wins in 2021 with seven successful tickets.
