Bitter Legal Dispute Over $5 million Lottery Win
There were smiles galore when Canadians Lawrence Campbell and Krystal Ann McKay claimed a $5 million lottery prize. Since then their relationship has collapsed and Campbell has taken McKay to court claiming he deserves a share of the winnings.
That’s just like another Canadian whose lottery dispute ended up in court. Lawrence Campbell from Winnipeg, Canada, says that it was him who bought the $5 million winning ticket for the January 19, 2024 draw.
However, as he didn’t have a government-issued ID he was unable to claim the lottery winnings himself, so his then partner Krystal Ann did.
Banking difficulties
Campbell has said that he was in a “loyal, committed and promising relationship” with her. He allowed Krystal Ann to put the $5 million lottery winnings into her bank account as he didn’t have one.
The couple appeared to look happy in some photos taken soon after the win. At this point, the story was that McKay had been given the winning ticket by Campbell as a birthday present.
However, it was noticed that McKay wasn’t exactly smiling a great deal when the couple were being photographed.
Where is she?
A few days later, Campbell says she didn’t return home and he began to unsuccessfully call around to see if anyone knew where she was. He went out searching for her and claims he made a shocking discovery. McKay was found in bed with another man!
McKay said she was leaving him for her “new guy” and then blocked him on social media. She refused to have any further contact with Campbell and then took out a protection order against him. Recently a $167.3 million Powerball winner ended up in jail.
Now the lottery dispute has ended up in court.. Campbell doesn’t just name McKay in his lawsuit. He claims that the lottery regulators gave him poor advice and did not tell him that having McKay claim the winnings was risky.
McKay’s lawyer, Conor Williamson, has said that his client will be filing a statement of defense and disputes the allegations Campbell has made against her.
