Buckeye State Woman Surpasses Husband's Lottery Victory with a $5 Million Win

Every couple has its friendly rivalries, but one Ohio couple took it to another level when the wife claimed a lottery prize that dramatically surpassed her husband's previous winnings. The tale of these fortunate spouses is nothing short of extraordinary.

The Tale of Two Winners

An Ohio woman, who prefers to remain anonymous, has now earned the bragging rights in her household after her luck led to a staggering $5 million lottery win. This came some years after her husband had won a not-too-shabby $1 million prize in the lottery himself. The Ohio Lottery confirmed this unusual sequence of events in a press release, highlighting the couple's uncanny knack for good fortune.

The latest twist in their tale of luck unfolded during an ordinary visit to the local Kroger store on Lancaster Pike in Circleville. While there, the woman decided to try her luck with a $50 "Ultimate $5,000,000" scratch-off ticket. But to her disappointment, she didn't win anything.

Undeterred, she decided to give it another shot and purchased the next ticket on the roll. She was short on time and didn't scratch off the entire ticket immediately. However, she believed that she had just won $20,000 and excitedly called her husband. They were overjoyed and even started planning a vacation to celebrate.

A Twist in Fortune

But then, she decided to scan the ticket just for reassurance. The second look made her believe that she had actually won an even bigger prize — $200,000. When she finally got home and scratched off the rest of the ticket, she was met with the biggest surprise of the day: It wasn't a $200,000 cash prize but rather $200,000 per year for 25 years! That's a jackpot equivalent of $5 million.

Upon claiming her prize from the Ohio Lottery, she chose to receive it as an annuity. After state and federal taxes of 26.75%, she will receive $146,500 per year for the next 25 years. The winner shared with lottery officials her plans to retire and stated that she and her husband are "just going to enjoy life."

By the time she spoke with Lottery staff, she had already booked an overnight stay in the Christmas Story House, a Cleveland home featured in the classic movie "A Christmas Story." But that's not all — they also plan to travel to Florida to swim with manatees. Additionally, she expressed her intentions to complete college, spoil her dogs, and invest wisely.

The couple is still in disbelief about their extraordinary luck. As of now, there are four out of six top prizes of $5 million remaining in the $50 "Ultimate $5,000,000" scratch-off game which launched in September 2025. There are also 86 out of 100 second-tier prizes of $50,000 and 428 out of 500 third-tier prizes of $10,000 left to claim. The overall odds of winning any prize in this game stand at 1 in 3.61.

This Ohio couple's story serves as a testament to the unpredictability and excitement that comes with playing the lottery — you never know when or how fortune will smile upon you!
