The El Gordo de Navidad is a traditional Spanish Christmas lottery draw. The President of the State Lottery and Betting Agency is Jesús Huerta and he has announced some changes to the draw for 2025.

The El Gordo de Navidad lottery is rather different from your usual draw. There are a series of numbers available and each is split into tenths.

This year there will be five more series than seen in 2024. That means a total of 198 series of 100,000 numbers each will be available to be purchased. Last year’s draw proved to be a special one for lottery players from Valencia.

The first prize in the El Gordo de Navidad is worth €4 million per series. That means someone who holds a tenth of the winning series will receive €400,000.  The second–tier prize is €1.25 million (€125,000 per tenth) and the third prize is €500,000 (€50,000). There are plenty of other ways to get a win in the draw.

Advertising campaign

A key part of the build-up to the El Gordo de Navidad are the advertisements. This year’s summer campaign again illustrates how this draw unites people. It’s 8am and people are looking forward to another sunny day in Spain in several ways. That includes going to the beach or singing an irritating song in a car.
