Cancer Sufferer Wins £250,000 Postcode Lottery Prize

Janet Edmunds from Newhaven in East Sussex is celebrating a £250,000 Postcode Lottery win. It’s a change of luck after a difficult year but nearly didn’t happen.

The mother-of-four recently purchased a new flat on the south coast of England. However, it wasn’t until just before the deadline that the regular player registered her new postcode. Ian from Chelmsford  won £111,111 Postcode Lottery prize using the details from a former home.

“I would have been devastated if I had forgotten,” said the Postcode Lottery winner. “This has completely changed everything for this year. It’s amazing, but it hasn’t sunk in yet,” she added.

Tough year

It’s been a tough year for the retired foster carer. Sadly her mother died in January at the age of 99. Soon after Janet fell ill and was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer.

Moving to Newhaven has been emotional for her. Her parents used to live nearby as her late father was a fisherman. “I moved here to have a nice, peaceful life. I enjoy it here with all the boats.” said Janet. Last year a player  in neighbouring West Sussex won a £166,666 Postcode Lottery prize.

Plans for her Postcode Lottery win include adding to her art deco collection, getting a new bathroom installed and treating her family, including her nine grandchildren.

Also receiving treats will be her chihuahuas Eddie and Nellie and sphynx cat Flo won’t miss out either.

Also winning a £250,000 Postcode Lottery prize is Tessa Langham. Initially, she thought her win was only going to be around £2,000.

The win has come at the right time for her. The great-grandmother is soon to move to Devon. That will allow her to be nearer to her son Russell.

The Postcode Lottery winner says she will “do something very meaningful” with her windfall and be "benevolent with it as much as I can.”  Helping her family will happen and Tessa says: “It is a wonderful position to be in to be able to do that.”
