Dh1 Million Lucky Day Winner To Help Those Back Home

Ananth Peerumalsay was part of an 11-strong syndicate that has won Dh1 million (nearly £203,000) in the Lucky Day draw run by the UAE Lottery.

The 33-year-old Indian works as an accountant for a shipping company and has been playing the draw since it began last December. The syndicate has been putting together Dh100 every fortnight to buy tickets for the draw.

Speaking about his win, the lucky player said: “I always had this quiet hope that maybe, just maybe, my day would come” and now it has.  A $100 million Australian Powerball winner also said she had a feeling one day a jackpot would be won.

He found out about his win when checking his online account. A message came up saying “Congratulations” but he wasn’t sure what to think. A call was made to customer support and they’d say someone would get back to him.

Everything changed

When that happened, he was told of his Dh1 million win. “Everything changed at that moment,” he recalled.

Anath says that he comes from a modest background. His Lucky Day win will “go a long way in fulfilling long-held dreams.” One of those is to build a house in India for his family. A real home, something they can call their own. That’s been my dream for a long time,” he added.

A blessing

The generous player also plans on using some of his winnings to pay education costs for some Indian students. He sees his Lucky Day winning as “a blessing” and not just luck.

The win will also end the worries he has had about how to cope with married life. “I feel so blessed as this prize came at the right time,” he declared. He’s also looking to  buy a new car, just as a $1 million Weekday Windfall winner did.

He plans on continuing to play the lottery. “Who knows, maybe next time I’ll win the Dh100 million (£20.3 million) grand prize”. Doing so would allow him to open his own business in Dubai.
