Some fantastic news followed a major disappointment for Barry Cook from Billingham in County Durham, England. A scheduled hip replacement surgery was postponed but then he was told of his £200,000 Postcode Lottery win.

Emotional

The grandfather said he’d “never been as emotional in my life” when being told how much he had won.

His first thought was to use his Postcode Lottery winnings to help his daughters. His wife, Dot added: “We’ll sort them out and take what’s left."

It’s the latest Postcode Lottery win in County Durham after a couple won £58,823  and then went to the Caribbean.

Treats for themselves will include a new front door for their home,  just like a £250,000 Postcode Lottery winner from Dorset.

Also planned are an overdue holiday. Barry says that’ll be a “nice week somewhere, fed and watered.” His wife is also planning a trip to a future Wimbledon tennis championships.

Daze

One operation that did take place was for neighbour Kathleen Slee. Her £200,000 Postcode Lottery win was revealed the day after having a cataract removed from her left eye.

The lucky player admitted to being in a “daze” and said her win was “a dream.” The Postcode Lottery winner added: “I always say when the advert comes on the television, ‘you’ve never been to my door yet, have you?’ It’s not real,.”  Well, that opinion has changed now.

A family holiday is now on its way. Before that, they held a big party. The possible bad news for their neighbours was they’d be getting their karaoke machine out. Treats were going to include her husband John singing ‘Valerie.’ As for his wife, her favourite is the Kylie Minogue song ‘Spinning Around.’

Not cooking

Great-gran May Arnold also won a £200,000 Postcode Lottery prize. Her immediate reaction was: “Well, I’m not cooking dinner tonight."

Her family will be treated and that includes a son, daughter, five grand-children and an amazing eight great-grandchildren. No wonder May joked: “I won’t see much of this.”
