“Emotional” Rollercoaster for $42m 649 Jackpot Winner
For over a decade Vincent Biamonte from Niagara Falls in Canada has been playing lottery games. His long wait for success is over after winning $42 million in the June 14 649 draw.
It’s taken until this month for him to come forward and be presented with his cheque and talk about his big win.
Stay in the queue
The 32-year-old was on his way home from his hospitality job when deciding to buy two 649 tickets. There was a big queue but he remained patient and was finally served. The morning after the draw he heard news that the jackpot had been won and the winning ticket sold in Niagara Falls.
His father kept suggesting to him that he should check his tickets purchased for the 649 draw. He had an inkling his son might just be the jackpot winner.
At lunchtime his tickets were checked. The first was indeed a winner but only won him a free play.
It’s me!
Then he checked his next one and this time the machine said ‘Big Winner.’ Initially he thought his win was only $42,000. On second glance he realised it was actually $42 million. Immediately he started shouting to his father “It’s me! It’s me!” as his hands and knees began shaking.
“I was trying to not fall down the stairs,” said the shocked 649 winner. His father had said he had a feeling that Vincent was the jackpot winner and amazingly he was.
The family celebration of his 649 win was not a complete one though. Sadly, Vincent’s mother has passed away but he made sure to “honour her memory” later that day.
Emotional rollercoaster
He describes his 649 win as an “emotional” rollercoaster. Sometimes he and his family still wonder if it’s real. Financial advice has been received and he wants to “take good care” of his family.
He also wants to focus on his baking and cooking skills, renovate his house and go on a family trip. Above anything though Vincent wants to maintain his “peace and privacy.”
