€1m Winning EuroMillions Ticket Initially Discarded

A man from Galway in Ireland won €1,000,005 in the EuroMillions draw held on August 19  However, he nearly lost out on becoming a millionaire after initially discarding his winning ticket.

The player, who has asked to remain anonymous, had purchased his ticket from a Costcutter in Bealadangan on the day the EuroMillions draw was due to be held. When it came to checking if it had won anything, he nearly made a very costly mistake.

He looked at his ticket and saw that the numbers hadn’t won him anything at all. Believing his EuroMillions ticket to have no value, he discarded it and looked forward to the next draw, hopeful of some success in that one.

Shock discovery

His big mistake was not to check the raffle code that was on the bottom of the EuroMillions ticket. A few weeks later, it was time for him to clear out his car. During the clear-up, he found his EuroMillions ticket wedged down the side of his seat.

Perhaps remembering he hadn’t checked the raffle code, he scanned his ticket on an app. That revealed it was indeed a winner. Next, he rang the National Lottery Claims Team and was told the amazing news that he was a millionaire. “I couldn’t speak, I was in such complete and utter shock!” recalled the EuroMillions winner.

Now he had to tell his wife about their great win. He concocted a plan whereby he’d put the winning cheque in her birthday card. The EuroMillions winner was so excited he just couldn’t wait. An hour after coming up with that great idea he revealed the truth to his shocked wife.

Off to Graceland

The couple are big fans of the singer Elvis Presley. They plan on using some of their EuroMillions wins to go to Graceland in Memphis where the King of Rock and Roll lived. That’s their only plan on how to spend their winnings. No wonder discovering the win left them all shook up but not in Heartbreak Hotel.
