€263,058 Irish Lotto Winner Finally Comes Forward

A man from Laois in Dublin, Ireland nearly missed out on their €263,058 Irish Lotto prize. It took him over two months before he finally claimed his winnings.

His Irish Lotto win came in the draw held on Saturday November 25, 2023. A Quick Pick ticket had been bought just hours before the draw took place. It was lucky enough to match five of the main numbers and the Bonus Ball to win €263,058.

Appeal made

Over two months later the prize hadn’t been claimed. Lottery officials knew where the winning ticket had been sold and made an appeal for players in Laois to check their Irish Lotto tickets. A player in Missouri, USA,  claimed their $50,000 Powerball win  just a day before the ticket was due to expire.

The appeal was seen by one of the family members of the winner. They contacted him and finally the winnings were claimed just a day after the appeal was made.

Why did he take so long to come forward and claim his Irish Lotto winnings? The winner wishes to remain anonymous but speaking to lottery officials he revealed how he nearly missed out on his winnings.

A very bad habit

It appears that he has what he admits to being “probably a very bad habit.”  Although he buys tickets every week, he never checks them if there’s no jackpot winner of it but in another part of Ireland. .

That was the case in the November 25 draw but he didn’t throw his ticket away. When he was told that the lottery was looking for a €263,058 winner in Laois, a frantic search began to find his ticket. Plenty of tickets were scanned before the possible winning ticket was finally found.

When put through a scanner it made an extra loud noise and that indicated it was a winner.”We knew we had it then, it was incredible,” recalled the Irish Lotto winner. He now plans to share some of his winnings with his family.
