EuroMillions Winner Asks to Borrow a Tenner
Back to news

You would imagine that after landing a big win on EuroMillions your days of having to borrow money would come to an end. However, metalworker Nigel Himsworth, 41, soon found himself having to borrow a ten-pound note.Nigel was part of a syndicate that won £333,167.40 in the EuroMillions draw held on Tuesday October 7th. The winning ticket was purchased from the Post Office and Newsagents in Dumbarton Road, Clydebank. They matched five numbers and one lucky star and the winning numbers in the draw were: 9-21-28-30-38 with Lucky Stars 1 and 8.As you’d expect he was keen to toast his winnings but that’s when his problems started. He may well have won a big prize but when his winnings were paid into his account it was frozen by bank officials so he had no access to his new-found wealth. So when it was time to buy some celebratory drinks he had to ask his surprised friends if they could lend him a tenner.Nigel, 41, said: “I couldn’t believe it - I was over the moon. It was the first time we had bought tickets as a syndicate as well so I couldn’t believe we had hit the jackpot. The money got paid into my account for me to divvy up the cash with the guys. When the money was paid in though, it was classed as a suspicious transaction and my account was frozen."It took 24 hours to get it freed up again. I had to borrow a few bob to go to the pub to celebrate.”The winning EuroMillions syndicate is made up of six workers from Barnsley in South Yorkshire who currently work outside Glasgow for specialist contractor Kirk Environmental. The other syndicate members are: Adam Wright, 27, Ashley Robinson, 28, Adam Booth, 20, Michael Hunt, 31, and Darren Fisher, 42. Each syndicate member will receive £55,527.90.Adam Booth has already purchased a second-hand Audi A3 car for £5,000, despite the fact he hasn’t got a driving licence. He said: “I haven’t even passed my test but if the car is sitting there on the driveway, it’s a great incentive to get the head down and pass.”Don’t forget to purchase your EuroMillions tickets online at on Friday 17th October the estimated jackpot is worth €162m.
