Family Comes First for $70m Lotto Max Winner

Manoharan Ponnuthurai from Brampton in Ontario, Canada, has claimed a $70 million Lotto Max jackpot won on December 17, 2021. Despite being a multi-millionaire, he has no plans to retire.

The 54-year-old said that he has been playing lottery games for around 30 years.  He had been inspired by his father to keep on playing. It’s all about being able to “dream about what could be,” said the Lotto Max jackpot winner.

He’d come close to winning in the past and often used his own numbers. However, it was a Quick Pick ticket that matched 09, 14, 16, 33, 39, 46 & 49 to win the jackpot.

Manoharan had seen a news report about a ticket sold in Brampton winning the $70 million Lotto Max jackpot. He then began to check his ticket not knowing his life was about to change forever. “One by one the numbers were matching and by the fourth number, I knew I won something,” he recalled.

He asked his wife and children to help check the Lotto Max. His heart began to beat faster and faster as he double checked the numbers on his phone. Then, ‘BIG WINNER’ came up. The shaking continues but there was to be no screaming. He just kept quietly saying, “I won. I won.”

Family celebration

His family were excited though and the hugging began. The Lotto Max winner adores his family and says he is “blessed to have them all with me to celebrate this incredible moment.” His mother was there too and told him that he deserved the win.

“I am so happy about my family’s future,” said the Lotto Max winner. “Whatever we decide to do, we will do it as family and that is so most important to me,” he added.

No retirement

Manoharan runs a small manufacturing company but won’t be retiring just yet. His wife is going to retire though but plans on going back to school.

Plans for their Lotto Max win including going travelling, when possible. Destinations include all of Europe, particularly “the beautiful spots around the Mediterranean Sea
