Just how does  a £1.2 million Postcode Lottery win change your life?  April 2024 saw Davie (aka David) Crowder from Scotland win that amount. He’s been talking about his first year as a millionaire.

The 63-year-old used to work for Grampian Police and also was a sergeant in the Black Watch. Since his big win, he’s been busy in the property market, bought a new Mercedes and been funding his love of golf.

Davie had three tickets, boosting his  winnings to £1.2 million, the highest win for a Scottish player.  Kevin from Wales won a £1.21 million Postcode Lottery prize.

Generous

He’s been a rather generous person in the past year or so. Two cars were bought for his children. This year sees his daughter getting married and he’s footing the bill. A donation was also made to his local golf club in Dunkeld. Still he wants to have that dream trip to the Masters in Georgia.

Speaking about his Postcode Lottery win, the lucky player said: “It’s been life-changing. It’s made my life so much easier.”  He added something many lottery winners say: “The big thing is the security, not just for me but for the family as well. Their futures are pretty much secured now, too.”

Taking time to decide just how to spend a big lottery win is important. This winner made some initial purchases but the vast majority of his winnings just sat in his bank account until he decided the best way to use it.

Air Ambulance support

He’s also been supporting Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA). That’s something close to his heart as he flew in helicopters during his time in the armed services. The link with the air ambulance service continued when he was a police officer. Now his  son flies in them as he works on the oil rigs.

It’s something he intends to continue doing. “You just have to look at the helicopter out there, to see what the benefit is.” The SCA receives £300,000 from the Postcode Lottery every year.
