Gift Exchange Leads to $175,050 Scratchcard Win

A white elephant gift exchange went very well for Lori Janes from Louisville in Kentucky, USA. It resulted in her receiving a scratchcard that won her $175,050.

Workers at the Harmon Dental Center were exchanging gifts and Lori had a $25 TJ Maxx gift card. That wasn’t too bad but she ended up with $25 worth of scratchcards and never thought one would win her a big prize.

Wth the scratchcard being confirmed as her final gift, her co-workers were all giving her one piece of advice. “Everyone was telling me to scratch them off,” said Janes. Could a big win be on its way or did all that swapping leave her with a worthless prize?

There was instant success with the first of her scratchcards with a $50 prize. That was twice the amount of the gift card but more success was on its way. The second scratchard was a $10 Hit The Jackpot ticket and it certainly lived up to its name. It won her the $175,000 top prize.

As you can expect, the office went crazy as Lori recalls: “"Everyone was going insane. People were getting their calculators out and double-checking. A couple of people even scanned the ticket on the lottery's app, just to make sure.”

The scratchcard win really had happened and all because of the gift exchange that had taken place. That $25 TJ Maax gift card may have been used to buy something nice but well, a $175,050 scratchcard win takes everything to a new level.

Janes contacted her family with the good news but they didn’t believe what they were hearing.  Her husband thought his wife hadn’t looked at the scratchcard properly but then began to hear all the noise in the background. On hearing that, “it became real,” he recalled.

The scratchcard win is going to be good news for her family. The remaining amounts due on her family’s cars and her daughter’s student loans will now be paid off. “This is so crazy. I'm truly blessed," said the scratchcard winner.
