“Itch” to Play Wins Pamela a $3 million Mega Millions Prize

Pamela Dietrich from Genesee County in Michigan, USA  had “an itch” to play the April 11 Mega Millions draw and won a $3 million prize.

The lucky player doesn’t regularly play the Mega Millions draw but does have an online account. One day she decided to try her luck and the next morning got the surprise of her life. An email was received informing her that she had won a prize.

Disbelieving

“I had a hard time believing it,” said the surprised player when discovering she was now a millionaire. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around this,” the Mega Millions winner added.

Her ticket matched the five main balls in the April 11 draw. Plans for her winnings include remodeling her home, paying off her car and then putting the rest in her savings account.

This win for the 58-year-old has made Pamela the first Michigan player to win at least $1 million  since the lottery was revamped.  That took place in the draw held before this $3 million win. Laura Spears from Michigan also won a $3 million Mega Millions prize.

Since the new rules came into play, there has been a massive increase in the amounts that have been won. The first nine revamped Mega Millions draws saw $51.3 million won in non-jackpot prizes. That’s 308% up on the $12.5 million that would have been previously won.

There has been one jackpot won since the changes were made. That saw a $112 million jackpot won on April 18. With the new rules in place, the next draw had a $50 million top prize. In the past that would have only been $20 million.

Exciting

The Lead Director of the Mega Millions Consortium is Joshua Johnston. He said that it is “exciting to see how players are reacting to the new game, especially when they win.” The changes were made with the aim of seeing higher jackpots being offered.

Friday’s draw has a $122 million jackpot.
