Lucky Black Cat Helps Couple Win £1m National Lottery Prize

It’s said that black cats can bring you bad luck. That’s certainly not been the case for Tony and Deb Pearce from Southend in Essex, England. The couple thank a “lucky” stray black cat for their £1 million National Lottery win five years ago,

Billy the cat started turning up at their home and the couple began to feed him. That was despite their own perilous financial situation. They were on the verge of having to sell their home and “becoming strays ourselves.”  Serious amounts of debt had been built up since ill health caused Tony to stop working. A move into rented accommodation was being considered.

Six months after he moved in with them, the £1 million National Lottery prize was won. No wonder Mrs Pearce is dismissive of the  opinion that black cats are unlucky. “I’d say nothing could be further from the truth,” said the National Lottery winner.

A second home

The delighted National Lottery winners have been able to stay at their home. Not just that they’ve carried out renovations and turned it into “our own perfect slice of heaven.” They’ve even been able to buy a second home in the county of Norfolk.

Tony, 71 and Deb, 63 have finally got married and thanks to their National Lottery win had a “dream wedding.” The couple have also been on several holidays since their win. When they take Billy with them he travels in style in a “huge carrier.” Oh, and of course there’s plenty of food treats for him to enjoy.

Billy has diabetes so needs twice daily insulin injections and a special hypoallergenic diet. Deb is prepared to do anything to help Billy and says that they “jump through hoops for his catering whims.”

No peas thanks

Billy can be a bit fussy with his food though and hates peas. Mrs Pearce joked: “I find myself rooting through his food, picking out the peas and wondering who is the National Lottery millionaire around here?!”
